On Friday, after our morning safari, we drove 4 hours up to Gulu. Gulu has many, many aid organizations that have located themselves in this northern city, all in an effort to help rebuild the economy after the years of war. We had no idea that this would be part of our trip, and yet what an amazing surprise. This trip not only allowed us to see the work of Restore International but also of many of the organizations working toward the goal of empowering the people of Uganda. 31 Bits was started by an American woman who desired to create unique paper beaded jewelry to help counter poverty, offer hope, and establish sustainability. Each woman applies to enter the 3 year program, where they also receive bible devotions, aerobic class, business classes, finance classes, family planning, daily lunch, and health care initiatives.
