The journey here has been put our senses in overdrive. Our middle of the night bus ride was surprisingly cool but overwhelmingly dirty, with our windows open to the cool night air, our feet, clothing, exposed skin, fingernails, ears…all were covered with a grimy layer of dirt. For almost 11 hours, our bus driver played a constant game of chicken driving straight toward oncoming traffic at a high speed, horn honking and swerving within literal inches at the last possible second. Needless to say, the men sitting up near the driver did not sleep a wink! We stopped 3 different times throughout the night at almost unbearable rest stops… feeling like at this point, if we can survive what we have, we can handle anything! However as morning came we were able to take in the amazing beauty of rural Bangladesh, passing rice patties, small villages, country mosques, and many natives going about their morning routines. Diana spoke the truth that by the time we would arrive at Malumghat it would truly seem like paradise. It is lush and green, well maintained, and going to be such a delight to get to spend the next few weeks here! The missionary kids, with help from Diana’s dad Ken, led us on a tour of the back compound late in the afternoon. The cobblestone pathways, gardens, schoolhouse, pool and nearby tidal river held such incredible beauty and we can’t wait to explore even more!
